Q&A: Deena Jalal of FoMu
Q&A: Jeff Pond of Area Four
Q&A: Carl Dooley of The Table
Deena Jalal’s ice cream adventures began in 2010, when she left a corporate job to take over an Emack & Bolio’s franchise. The Springfield native soon struck out on her own, opening the first FoMu shop in Allston and hawking her vegan ice cream made from all-natural, plant-based ingredients. Today FoMu has three shops spread across Boston selling ice cream cakes, chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches, and even a personal take on the Choco Taco (in addition to a delicious lineup of ice cream flavors).
Boston’s best dish:
That is SO hard. I could write a novel. I adore food. Maybe favorite food by genre? But to be completely honest, I would eat Picco’s pizza crust or a Bagelsaurus bagel every meal of everyday (if you can’t tell…I’m a carbo-holic).
Guilty pleasure food:
Again…so hard. I have a huge sweet tooth, and love salty/sweet combos. A warm brioche ice cream sammie would make my day.
Kitchen playlist:
Usually a Pentatonix mix. I’m a big a cappella dork.
Favorite food destination:
So hard. I’ve been fortunate to travel quite a bit. Ok, top faves so far…Toronto, Paris (I know it’s cliché, but it is so good), and Mumbai.
Cooking inspiration:
My kids, for sure. How and what I cook and where we eat is totally inspired by them. I also love recreating yummy dishes I’ve had by our amazing local chefs and food I’ve had abroad.
