There’s nothing like a downhill run on fresh powder, but this ski-inspired cocktail from Trade comes close. The Snowbunny uses vodka, two liqueurs, and a dusting of powdered sugar to create a drink with a wintery look and a bright, floral taste.
Bartender Sonny Verdini considers the taming presence of Grey Goose vodka to be a crucial element in the drink’s success.
“It has this viscous texture to it, which gives it a nice mouthfeel,” Verdini says. “Some vodkas are really astringent and bite down on your tongue. [Grey Goose] gives it roundness.”
St. Elder, a natural liqueur made with elderflower blossoms, introduces a floral element to the mix. The small amount of Combier Crème de Mûre, a French blackberry liqueur, adds dark, fruity notes and a considerable amount of tartness.
An extra helping of crushed ice topped with powdered sugar makes the drink resemble a snow-covered mountaintop—but it provides more than just visual flair. It keeps the Snowbunny ice-cold: just the right temperature to enjoy those floral, fruity flavors.
Snowbunny
2 ounces Grey Goose
½ ounce St. Elder
½ ounce lemon juice
½ ounce simple syrup
1 teaspoon Combier Crème De Mûre
1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for garnish
1 blackberry, for garnish
Add vodka, St. Elder, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with crushed ice. Add additional crushed ice so that it forms a mound above the rim of the glass, and pour Combier Crème De Mûre over the ice. Garnish with blackberry and powdered sugar.
