Brothers Will and Dave Willis were concocting apple brandy and hard cider before they busted open a mysterious vault in the basement of their family’s Massachusetts farmhouse, uncovering their grandfather’s collection of pre-Prohibition-era spirits. Taking it as an omen, they teamed up to launch Boston’s first craft distillery out of an old warehouse in 2010.
Upgrading to a larger location in Roxbury has afforded the brothers more room to tinker with their New England terroir-driven spirits, like Estate Gin, made from a base of Massachusetts apple brandy; Boston Rum, made with a mix of blackstrap and sweet molasses; or Vodka, made from a sweeter base of corn. The new space has also allowed the duo to open a cozy bar. We love looking out into the distilling room here while sipping on a $15 cocktail flight—one of the best deals in town for cocktail aficionados.
