In Boston, When Pigs Fly means hearty bread you can find at the supermarket. In Kittery, though, the name is synonymous with chewy, gooey wood-fired pizzas, cold beers, and a raucous good time for the whole family. The heart of this sprawling 160-seat restaurant is a massive pizza oven, which turns out pies like Meatball, Medjool Date & Soppressata, and—our personal favorite—the Italian Spicy Sausage & Mushroom. Sweet and savory Crispy Brussels Sprouts with sesame ginger sauce will keep you very happy until pizzas hit the table. Salads, like a Caesar with white anchovies and fried garlic, and Kale with quinoa and shredded beets, are also great choices to round out the meal. Of course, we can’t discount the bread; When Pigs Fly has a hearty selection of sandwiches, from a Turkey B-L-T on cranberry bread to a tender Meatball Sub with hot cherry peppers on baguette. PSA: Save room for the Ice Cream Sandwich. Gifford’s Ice Cream is pressed between whatever cookies are looking good in the bakery that day.
